done testing the software, just click on [Get Registration Code from
ElectraSoft Later].
Getting Started:
For any help with the interface or to see what any features do, please
Click on [Help], [Help] from the 32bit Service Monitor top menu items,
shown below:
Once you have started 32bit Service Monitor, go to the global options,
by clicking the tab that says, [Global Options]. This will bring you here:
Once here, you can configure any options you see to your liking.
Now click on the [Configure/Monitor Services] tab to go to that screen.
The program should now look something like this:
The following information is for if you wanted to monitor a web site's
status, whether it is working or not. The same can be applied to other
services. I will explain from the top of the screen to the bottom.
Note that when you are a registered user (paid for 32bit Service Monitor),
you will have access to all five service tabs to be able to monitor up to
5 services at once. The screens for Service 1 to 5 will look the same.
If you want to monitor your web site, you would type the name of the web
site in the [Service Name] field. This is just for your reference so that
you know what it is. Notice that in the above picture, the service name is,
[MyGreatWebSite.com - HTTP]. I put HTTP in there because HTTP is telling
me that this is an HTTP service, or web site.
In the next field, [Host, Domain, or IP], you will put the actual address
to the web site. [MyGreatWebSite.com] is what you would enter in if your
web site URL was: http://www.MyGreatWebSite.com or
http://MyGreatWebSite.com . You can also enter in a number IP address in
here if you know it.
The next field, [Command, Script (optional)] is not actually needed, but
is there in case an advanced user wishes to use it. See the help files to
see how to use this.
The next field, [Port (0 - 65535)] is where you can specify which port the
service is listening on. For a web site, this would almost always be port
80. The drop down list for this field gives a list of well known ports and
the service they are usually used for. So, if you are monitoring a web
site and do not know what this means, just leave this field alone
(Default is port 80).
For the [Configure Alerts], set it as you wish. Put the number of minutes
you want in between service checks in the [Minutes between Checks] field,
and put the number of failed service checks you want there to be before
you are notified in the [Failed checks before Alert] field. 20 seconds for
the [Timeout, seconds] field will probably be a good setting for any
service. Leave that alone unless you are certain you want to change it.
For the [Select Alerts] section, select and configure the alerts
you want to execute when enough failed service checks occur, which you
configured in the [Failed checks before Alert] field. Fore more
information on how to configure some of the more advanced alerts, please
see the help files within 32bit Service Monitor.
All you have to do now to start monitoring your web site or service, is
make sure the [Monitor Service] check box is checked, located at
the bottom left of the program. The service status will be displayed to
the right of this check box and you will be alerted (how you configured
it) whenever your web site or service is down for the amount of failed
checks you have it configured for.
This concludes the online tutorial. If you have more questions, please
